The art of choosing.

An educational reconstruction of a six-speed manual transaxle for the 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera S. The study shows a flywheel and friction clutch, constant-mesh forward gear pairs, sliding synchronizer sleeves, a reverse idler and a differential.

All forward pairs remain in mesh. A synchronizer locks the selected driven gear to the output shaft; unselected gears freewheel. Neutral disconnects that shaft. Reverse uses an additional idler to reverse output direction. The final drive reduces axle speed by 3.44:1.

Nominal forward ratios are 3.91, 2.32, 1.61, 1.28, 1.08 and 0.88; reverse is represented as 3.59. Geometry, tooth counts, gear order, selector routing, clutch travel and bearing positions are illustrative. The layout is arranged to make the mechanism visible, and is not factory CAD.

Shifting automatically opens and closes the clutch. The engagement slider illustrates input coupling; coast-down, shifts and clutch slip are simplified. Torque multiplication is the ideal ratio without losses. Both rear half-shafts turn equally to represent straight-line driving.

The optional linkage reconstructs the Numeric Racing NM100 2.0 short-throw shifter and NM202 cables: an open billet frame, adjustable lever, bearing-supported pivots, V2 self-centering spring, fixed cable housings and moving inner cores. A generic Porsche-style knob completes the lever. Teal identifies gate selection; amber identifies gear engagement. Both Numeric cable housings are black.

Sideways movement selects a selector rail; fore/aft movement engages its gear. Every shift returns through neutral before crossing a gate. Selecting N lets the spring center the lever on the 3–4 gate. Cable colors and motion are emphasized for visibility. Dimensions, lever adjustment, bellcrank geometry, cable routing, selector connections and reverse interlock are illustrative, not installation instructions or a measured replica of your car.

Optional sound is a synthesized flat-six engine approximation tied to engine RPM, independently of visual slow motion. The default Fister-style profile emphasizes the low bank pulse, pipe resonance and exhaust growl. Stock-style is also available. These profiles are sound-design approximations, not recordings of a Fister-modified Carrera S.
